How about a Subway Series for New York City!! I know, I know! It’s a little early to be predicting. But it’s opening week for baseball and there’s nothing wrong with wishing! Why not? The Giants just won the Super Bowl, the Knicks just beat the team with the best record in the NBA in overtime and the Rangers are in the playoffs. So Why Not?
I understand! The Yankees are down 3-0 and the Mets swept the Braves 3-0. So what are the odds? Vegas has the Yankees 7-1 to win the World Series and the Mets are 40-1 odds. Not looking good! Time will tell.
In the meantime, take a look at these subway cars from decades past that transported baseball fans to and from Ebbets Field, the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium. Courtesy of freedomstudiosnyc.com
Everybody knows that Brooklyn is where it’s at right now! Williamsburg, DUMBO, Red Hook, Smith Street. But not too many people have ventured down to lower Atlantic Avenue to the famous sailor haunt Montero’s.
My Dad a career Navy man said that Montero’s has been a well-known watering hole for “Swabbies” for decades since the era of “On the Waterfront” – Starring Marlon Brando. A true drinking bar, this is not the place to find drinks with funny names shaken into pastel colors. But hard drinks for people who wanna get drunk fast!!
I was fortunate enough to be there on a Saturday Night where my sources informed me that Amethyst will be showing up with a Kareoke machine sometime around 10PM.
I met three “Singer-Ringers” that convinced me to do a couple of standard numbers. Which I was totally into. Being the closet performer that I am! 🙂
I also had the “Honor” of taking a special request from Miss Carol who is one of the regulars. When she said it was a Whitney Houston song I almost declined. But when she told me it was her 1st husband’s favorite song. Then how can you turn that down!
I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. But when I turned away from the tele-prompter to sing her a few lines. I noticed that she was getting very emotional. I had struck a cord!
With tears in her eyes, she thanked me and I realized that we both had gotten something out of this performance!
I can’t guarantee that you’ll have the same experience. But if you find yourself on Atlantic on a late Saturday night, then stop into Montero’s and don’t forget to buy Carol a drink!!
PBR $4 – Jamesons $6 – Closing down Montero’s to Carol singing “Fever” , PRICELESS!!

Bravo Mateo,Keep Shooting!! It looks like we’re going to have a 2011-12 NBA Basketball season after all!! Not a minute too late! Perfect timing. I like football. But I Love BASKETBALL!!
Here are some gift-giving images for the basketball lover in your life!

You can almost hear the wheels of horse-drawn carriages of the 1800’s that galloped up and down the romantic tree-lined streets and Brownstone townhouses. Combine that with easy access to every major train line to the city, supermarkets, restaurants on Smith St. and finding a 3BR rental apartment in Bklyn Hts, Cobble Hill, Boreum Hill or DUMBO is not so easy to find right now.
Lack of inventory and high demand has actually raised rent prices in some cases.
I had an appointment to show my clients that had just sold their large home in Cobble Hill (downsizing) who are in the market for a 3BR rental and the rent had gone up $500 in one day.
The owner felt they could get a higher price because of the lack of inventory. Interesting!
If you see a 3BR that you like, jump on it!!
