First of all, for those of you that didn’t know that I was in Mexico, I’m in Mexico!
We’ll talk when I get back. 🙂
So last Friday I went over to the island of Cozumel to check out and shoot the ruins they have on the island called San Gervasio. Which was located right in the middle of the island about 15-20 miles from the port. Anyway, I got a scooter for cheap and spent most of my day shooting and scouting out sites to sell my photos.
I finished shooting San Gervasio and headed back towards the port. But I hadn’t really eaten and was starving. But I was in tourist-ville where everything was way more than what I was used to spending back in Cancun Centro. Not to mention the prices were all being quoted in dollars rather than pesos which sort of bummed me out too.
Anyways I stumbled on to a spot called Bob’s. It’s a small but really cool restaurant that only serves American dishes. So since I haven’t eaten anything american the entire time I’ve been here, why not stop for a burger.
There I met a scuba photographer who that told me about the carnivale celebration that started the next day and invited me to be on the French Quarter float. The French Quarter is an upscale and chill restaurant bar that serves New Orleans style food on the island with great live bands!
Having not experienced any kind of Carnivale celebration, ever! There was no way I was missing this out on this adventure. So I immediately walked across the street to a fabric store and bought three inexpensive pieces of fabric a cuba libre mask, some feathers and I was ready to go!
Now if you find yourself on the Island of Cozumel during Carnivale, then I would recommend dropping in on Bob’s or the French Quarter. Now I can’t guarantee that you’ll be in the Carnivale parade. But I can say you’ll have an amazing time of your life!! Needless to say, this was an experience that I will never forget! BTW- It’s 2012 for the record! 😉
